TORONTO – A man who is suing his ex-wife, Immigration officials, a doctor and a popular Toronto strip club after he contracted HIV will be in Ontario Superior Court Tuesday to hear if he can proceed with his $30 million lawsuit.

AIDS carrier and contributor to Canada Suwalee Iamkong, since deported

Percy Whiteman, 36, claims that his former wife, Suwalee Iamkhong, and the other parties’ negligence led to his contracting the human immunodeficiency virus.

Whiteman alleges that claim because government officials did not take the necessary precautions when they allowed Iamkhong, a former sex worker, to immigrate to Canada with HIV. He also alleges that the immigration doctor didn’t do take the necessary steps to screen her for the disease.

Iamkhong was a former dancer in Hong Kong, before the two met while she was a stripper at the Zanzibar Tavern in downtown Toronto. He is also claiming the strip bar encouraged their sexual relationship.

The couple were married from 1997 to 2004.

Reached late Monday, Witeman’s lawyer, Mauricio Benzaquen, said he expects the motion to take the whole day.
